Because of the rapid growth of on and off road cycling in recent years, many communities now have a network of bike shops, trails and amenities to support safe cycling. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that on average, two people are killed daily in the United States in bicycle-vehicle crashes, totaling upward of 700 deaths per year. Residents in urban and rural areas are encouraged to educate themselves about state and local bicycling laws and policies.
