Local Knowledge About Factory-Made CNG Vehicles

CNG carThe nation's only light-duty, factory-produced CNG vehicle, the Honda Civic Natural Gas, has been on the market since 1998. Though these vehicles are selling out faster than they are made and production is expanding, no other automakers are currently manufacturing light-duty CNG vehicles in the U.S. According to Forbes Magazine, "Natural gas vehicles are saddled by a number of drawbacks. They get worse mileage than regular gas cars. Reviewers in general say they are relatively uninspiring to drive. And the economics aren’t terrific: Honda’s CNG Civic costs more than the regular Civic. But if that wasn’t enough, here is another stat that may dampen your enthusiasm. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, in 2015 there were only 824 privately operated CNG stations in the U.S. and 74 private LNG stations in the country. By contrast, you can get liquid propane at 2,883 places or charge your EV at 9,572 charging stations or 24,450 charging outlets."
